Mid-19th century Chinese elm and woven raw hide stools.
The rich patina and markings on these stools reveal pieces of furniture that have been beautifully made and cared for for over 200 years. This form inspired the work of many of the great 20th century Danish masters. This pair is particularly unusual because of the woven raw hide seats, which are supple and extremely strong.

Ébénisterie Seltz. is a family cabinetmaking workshop in Alsace, Franch and is known amongst collectors for their solid oak furniture of the 1960s and 1970s with strong, sculptural forms, visible joinery and hand-finished surfaces. You'll see that in these chairs with their gently curved backrest, beautifully sculpted seat and precise joinery. Pierre Chapo selected the workshop to produce some of his designs in the 1970s.
