Pair of Early Isamu Noguchi for Knoll Associates Table Lamps c. 1947
Model no. 9.
Noguchi initially created a cylindrical polyvinyl shade wound around three upright mahogany posts as a gift for his sister, Ailes, in the mid-1940s. This would serve as a prototype for Model 9, which was put into production by Knoll Associates soon after (1947). This lamp was designed prior to Isamu Noguchi starting his Akari light sculpture series in 1951.
