17th Century Portrait of a Young Girl
SOLD.
17th century portrait of a young Spanish girl.
Oil on canvas. Artist unknown.
We’re drawn to many different eras and historical styles, while always trying to find their relevance in our contemporary world. At first glance this painting could look like just another ‘old master’ however, we were drawn to the strong, triangular composition of the young girl with darkness closing in around her. This makes this painting feel surprisingly modern. The subject’s gaze is powerful and arresting, and we love the contrast of her rosy cheeks and red flowers with the darkness which surrounds her.
