Made in 1969 as a custom order for Captain Floyd Warne Gooch Jr.
The bench is made from solid cherry. The single board top has a beautiful sap grain and is elegant in its gradual, sinuous curve. The trapezoidal legs are uncommon for Nakashima and act as a nice balance to the free-form top.
Signed and dated on underside of seat: ‘Capt. Gooch, George Nakashima, September 1969’. Original drawing for the bench included.
Measurements: 79 3/4“ Length (at longest point), 18 3/4” Height, 16” Depth (at deepest point)
Condition: Excellent condition. Only minor signs of surface wear consistent with age. Please refer to images and feel free to be in touch with any questions or for additional images. We prefer to leave these pieces in their untouched, historic state however Nakashima pieces could easily be restored to a ‘perfect’ state since no stain was ever used and the pieces are finished in a natural tung oil.
