Historic set of six Shaker dining chairs made by Lillian Barlow, Mount Lebanon, c. 1935.
Believed to be the last shaker chairs made (see image of letter from Lillian Barlow to Florence Roberts, wife of John S. Roberts, from the Winterthur Museum & Library, home to one of the most important Americana collections in the US. Sister Lillian Barlow died in 1942).
Last owned by Charles R. Muller, furniture scholar and co-author of “ The Shaker Chair”, first published in 1984.
Measurements: 41.5” Height (to top of finial) x 19” Width (at widest part) x 15.5” Depth x 17.75” Seat Height
Condition: Original, untouched condition. Beautiful honest wear with original varnish. Retains original cotton taped seats. Minor signs of wear consistent with age. Please refer to images and feel free to be in touch with any questions or for additional images.
