Set of 6 Charlotte Perriand Meribel Chairs by B.C.B
Set of 6 Charlotte Perriand Meribel Chairs by B.C.B
A rare set of six first production Charlotte Perriand Meribel chairs.
This set was produced by George Blanchon (B.C.B) circa 1948 and are completely original and untouched. The patina is beautiful. The back leg has a slight bend which is unique to the B.C.B. version and the seat back is comprised of two pieces of solid ash. All the joints have dowels for reinforcement which adds a beautiful rhythmic detail throughout the form. The original rush seats are in excellent condition and still strong. This set of six is as intended and not an assembled set.
It’s interesting to watch the evolution of the Meribel chair. We love that they at first look like traditional Alp craft furniture but upon further inspection are one of the warmest pieces of modern furniture - something Perriand was a master at.
(Perriand actually made a set that’s even earlier than these in 1941 for Etienne Sicard’s Tokyo apartment which had cylindrical cross stretchers but that version was never produced in mass.)
