Like Josef Hoffmann, Marcel Kammerer (1878-1959) was a student of Otto Wagner, a leading member of the Vienna Secession and an important predecessor to modern architecture and design.
One of Wagner's most famous works was the Österreichische Postsparkasse in Vienna. Although every part of the building was made under Wagner's name, it is now generally assumed that the furnishings were designed by his student, Marcel Kammerer, under the supervision of Wagner.
Unusual in the cinnabar red stain. When these rare chairs show up, they’re generally in the dark brown color way.
Both chairs are marked Thonet under the seat.
Excellent condition. Reupholstered in a beautiful brick red linen and cotton fabric imported from France to match the original.
