This model is one of the later Akari models, introduced by Noguchi c. 1984. Gemini G.E.L was one of the few - and one of the last - allowed to distribute Noguchi’s Akari light sculptures in the mid 1980’s before The Noguchi Museum took over all rights. They marketed Akari as art in the form of light sculpture - something Noguchi had advocated for since their inception. Noguchi also made 26 galvanized steel editions for Gemini in the 1980’s.
