A rare pair of Charlotte Perriand Berger Stools in Jacaranda, a Brazilian rosewood.

Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist, circa 1970s; Private Collection, Rio de Janeiro; Thence by descent; Sotheby’s 2022

The original owner of these stools was from Paris but lived for several years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil through the 1960s-70s. Her husband was a director at Air France, which is how the couple became acquainted with Perriand. They acquired these stools directly from Perriand c. 1970, during her period of residence in Brazil. The owner also lived for a period of time in Tokyo and she and Perriand shared a mutual love of Japan, Brazil and France.
