A beautiful piece of blonde petrified wood.
The term petrified wood stems from the Greek root ‘petro’ meaning ‘rock’ or ‘stone’; literally ‘wood turned into stone’. It is essentially a fossil and is the result of a tree, or tree-like plant, completely transitioning to stone by the process of permineralization. All of the original plant material has been replaced with minerals such as quartz, silica, calcite or pyrite while still retaining a three-dimensional representation of the original, organic material.
