Miniature Parianware Sculpture of Ganymede + Zeus

Miniature Parianware Sculpture of Ganymede + Zeus

650.00

Miniature parian (porcelain) sculpture by Bing & Grøndahl.

Late 19th Century, Denmark.

In Greek mythology Ganymede, 'The loveliest born of the race of mortals’, was captured by Zeus, who had fallen in love with his beauty, to serve as a cup bearer in Olympus in the form of an eagle.

This Bing & Grondahl piece is based on Bertel Thorvaldsen’s sculpture ‘Ganymede Waters Zeus as an Eagle’ which sits in the Thorvaldsen museum in Copenhagen. We’re slightly obsessed with the piece but have never seen this miniature version before!

Dimensions: 4.25” Height, 5.5” Width, 2.5” Depth.
